Previously I wrote a post about scrounging for rare Axies. In this post I will share some updated thoughts on rarity in Axie Infinity.
Axie Infinity launched its sidechain Ronin a few weeks ago. This reignited a lot of the moving parts within the Axie ecosystem that needed a kick-along. Axies are selling a lot cheaper now because sellers don’t need to price in gas on ethereum mainnet. This has made the game much more accessible. Breeding is also running rampant now for the same reasons. I had a lot of Axies for sale before the Ronin migration that just weren’t getting any interest so I was happy to mark them down significantly to get some ETH on Ronin to buy some of the rarer ones I’d spotted.
The next thing we need is a Uniswap clone on Ronin so we can exchange ETH, SLP and AXS on the sidechain. This will close the loop and ensure all those moving parts are set in motion.
When Ronin launched, the core Axie team also ‘retired’ Japanese parts. This meant that Axies with ‘Japanese’ parts could no longer pass these parts down to their children through breeding. Thus there is now a cap on Axies with Japanese parts. Other non-breedable parts are Mystic parts, MEO parts, MEO II parts and ‘Christmas’ parts - I mentioned these in my scrounging post.
The other ‘rarity’ attributes of Axies - class, body type, purity and breed count are significantly less valuable than non-breedable parts for obvious reasons. Thus whilst the mech yak Axie I highlighted in my scrounging post may have been rare at the time, there is no cap on the number of them so with breeding they become less and less rare.
However, when you combine these breedable attributes with an Axie that has non-breedable parts, that’s when I believe they become significantly more valuable. For example, reptile mystics or - what I have recently purchased - ‘secret’ class Axies with Japanese parts.
All of my old Axies I didn’t want have now sold on Ronin, which is awesome. That meant I had a bit of ETH on Ronin to use for some bargain rare Axies.
First up, Axie #209896 - a virgin dusk Axie with one Japanese part. I FOMO-ed in a bit here and paid 0.199 ETH for this cutie. Nevertheless, this is my first dusk Axie and I bought it from ak, an Axie legend. I like it when I acquire Axies bred by Axie OGs.

Stats from Freaks amazing Axie tools. There are apparently 205 Axies with the Yakitori part.
Its Japanese part is ‘Yakitori’, the shiitake mushroom on its back with what looks like a chopstick poked through. He’s also a pretty resilient little fella with lots of healing powers!
Next, Axie #89455 - a virgin Dawn Axie with one Japanese part. This is probably the best value Axie I have ever acquired. I paid just 0.075 ETH for this, from Clumsier - another Axie OG. 89455 is considered a lowish ID these days (we’re over 400,000 Axies now!), another rarity attribute. Her Japanese part is ‘Yorishiro’, the elegant crown atop her head. She has a couple of solid damage cards and a little bit of healing power.
There are just 175 Axies with the Yorishoro crown.
Let’s not forget Axie #139033 - a bad-ass ‘Frosty’ tank that I was lucky enough to win in a giveaway (thanks BROKEAF - eternally grateful) back in March. This one has some great cards and I use it in my ‘A’ PVP team.
I’m looking cheapish virgin MEO and MEO II Axies, virgin Yak Axies with a Japanese part and cheapish virgin Axies with 2+ Japanese parts.
TLDR - recently retired Japanese part Axies seem like a bargain right now. Keep an eye out for those that have additional ‘rarity’ traits (eg secret classes).
