@actifit and #newsteem
I have noticed a few posts in my steem feed from folks I follow and also resteems from folks I follow (of posts from folks I don't follow) with a similar sentiment - almost everyone who creates content on steem does so with the expectation that they will receive upvotes and thus take from the reward pool and therefore the expectation is that the content should add value (of course what this looks like is different for everyone) to the blockchain in some way. In its simplest form they are talking about give and take, and they are suggesting that too many people do a lot more taking than giving. Here are some examples of posts I have noticed - @mindtrap in this post and @costanza in this post. I agree in principle with what they are saying and so I apologise in advance for my @actifit posts that have about three sentences and only the default @actifit graphic. I try to avoid these but some days I haven't got much to give but I still take. Sorry again!
I've also noticed some people I follow (won't single anyone out!) lift their game a bit in their @actifit posts. I wonder if it's for the same reason?
More on how I'm using @actifit
A week or two ago I wrote a post about how I'm using @actifit. One small change I made was to get out at another train station on the commute home and walk further to accumulate more steps and get past the 10K steps mark for the day. On Friday and today I also walked to another station in the morning. This means I don't need to change trains - I just get on and it takes me all the way to my destination, which is a bonus. The offshoot is that it allows me to use my time slightly differently. The thing I dislike about my life the most is the amount of time I spend scrolling through social media feeds. It has taken control of my life and now I'm trying to take control back. I leave ten minutes earlier to walk to Town Hall station - this takes away from time I'd otherwise be sitting on the sofa on Reddit, Twitter, Youtube, steem, etc. I can also listen to podcasts on these walks, which means on the train ride I can be reading books (this sometimes happens) or doing work (this almost never happens!).
A lot of the inspiration for all this came from reading James Clear's Atomic Habits recently, and there are other things I've changed up as result. I plan to write another post on this in the coming weeks after I've had a chance to synthesise my thoughts into blog post format.
Today's activity
Today I walked to Town Hall station in the morning and walked home from Central station. I also had playground duty at lunch, and took out the recycling.
The walk home
Here are a few photos I took this afternoon. I love these old buildings that have kept their 'branding' on them:
Edwards & Co Ltd
Griffiths Teas
Mark Foys
In other news
Today I received this badge from @steemitboard for the first time ever for posting for every day for the last week, which I'm so proud of :-)
