About 102 years ago there was a Democratic Party Convention that had such a high number, 300, of delegates who were associated with the Ku Klux Klan that later commentators referenced this Convention as ‘the Klanbake Convention’. I would very much doubt that a Black American Democrat would have felt safe at that particular Convention.
However as the Democrats were seen at that time by many Black Americans as tainted with the sin of Democrat support of slavery and the Jim Crow laws of the Southern States, to be a Black Democrat was a minority view and most Black Americans at the time supported the Republicans. The shift towards the Democrats for some Black Americans started in the later 1920’s but Black support for Democrats was still at that time a minority cause. Now the Democrats appear to be the party of choice for Urban Black Americans despite their current association with American Muslims and despite the inhabitants of high profile Islamic states or enclaves continuing to refer to Blacks as ‘Abeed’ which can mean ‘slave’.
Fast forward to today and it appears that Jewish Democrats are now as unwelcome in the Democrat Party as Blacks were in the very early 20th century.
According to an article on the Honest Reporting website, the Attorney General of Michigan who is Jewish is not going to attend the Democrat nominating convention for fear of harassment by Jew hating nutcases. This is a similar position to how a Black American might have been had they considered going to a Democrat convention before the Democrats had become a bit more friendly to Black Americans and their concerns.
Honest Reporting said:
“A few weeks ago, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced that she would skip the Michigan Democratic Party’s nominating convention later this month. Her reason is extraordinary – she is afraid to attend because she is a Jew. Specifically, she said “I feel like my presence isn’t going to be welcome. I don’t want to get chased around. I don’t want to get harassed. I don’t want to get yelled and screamed at. I don’t want to get booed off the stage, irrespective of what I’m saying. And I believe that if I go, that is what will happen because it’s been happening to me.”
To put this in perspective, this is the highest law enforcement officer in the state of Michigan, afraid to attend the nominating convention of her own party because she is afraid of being targeted with antisemitic hate. Read that line a second time and let it sink in. In 2026, a statewide elected official is afraid to attend a party event, not because of a mob of protesters outside or because she holds views outside the mainstream. She’s afraid because convention delegates and party leaders, those inside the hall itself, will not accept her simply because she is a Jew.”
I don’t normally negatively comment on US politics, mostly because I and my nation lost the right to do that in 1776, but on this occasion I feel I must do so. This is a terrible situation for the Democrat Party to devolve into. What’s worse is that this situation will be ignored by the mainstream media both in the USA and outside. It will be accepted that Jews are unsafe at Democratic Party political events just as it was accepted back in 1924 that the KKK could turn up at Democrat events and be accepted.
I know I do not have any right to tell American Jews how to vote but what I will say is maybe the time is now for American Jews to start to look at the Democrats and wonder if you still belong either as a Democrat voter or as a member of this party? There are it needs to be said millions of Democrat voters who are decent, hardworking and patriotic Americans, but these are not the people calling the shots in the Democrat Party as an organisation. The bulk of Democrat voters might be solid decent Americans but the same cannot be said for many Democrat activists who seem to be enamoured of groups like Hamas, who are hostile to the idea of meritocracy, deaf to the pleas of Americans at the bottom of society who are struggling and have deeply imbibed at the poisonous well of identity politics.
The US Democrat Party seems to be in a similar position to what Britain’s Labour Party was in during the 1980’s. Labour’s voters and potential voters in the early 80’s might have been decent solid Britons but the party itself was at that time made of extreme far Left nutcases. Labour, under Michael Foot was unelectable by ordinary decent patriotic Britons because Labour’s policies and their activists were seen as extreme. Eventually, Labour’s turn to the extremes drove away the moderate social democrats who founded their own party and left Labour in the electoral wilderness until 1997. I do wonder if splitting from the Democrats by the more moderate in that party might eventually be an option although I know that new parties don’t fare that well in US politics? If moderates find that they have no voice and no place in the new Democrat Party then they might feel that the drastic step of walking away might be one option if they could not switch to voting for the Republicans.
From my vantage point across the pond I don’t like what I see in the Democrats just as I don’t like what I see in Britain’s Leftist parties. Both the US Democrats and Britain’s leftist parties, those in government and without, are becoming parties that side with the enemies not just of Jews but of Western culture and civilisation in general.
It is, it needs to be said, a watershed moment when a State’s Attorney General, the highest law officer in the State of Michigan cannot attend her own party’s nominating Convention for fear of violence, harassment and intimidation. If someone like this, someone who is likely to have access to paid and probably armed security, feels unsafe at her own party’s Convention then how bad must it be for moderate working class Democrats, Jewish Democrats and those on the less radical and more social democratic wing of the Party?
The Democrats seem to me to no longer be the party of Roosevelt or Kennedy, a party willing to use the powers of the state to try to improve the lot of ordinary Americans or right great historical wrongs, but the party of Leftist extremes, of jihadism and of the sort of identity politics that does not bring people together but only divides them. The fact that a Jewish woman who occupies a very high profile and exulted public position feels that she would be unsafe in the company of those from her own party should be a wake up call for Americans as it is a sign that something has gone very wrong in the Democrat Party.
Maybe the Michigan Nominating Convention will develop its own moniker in a few years just as the 1924 Convention earned the nickname ‘the Klanbake Convention’? My suggestion, or at least the one that I deem fit to print could be ‘the Nutbag and Jihadist Convention’.
