Hi hivers.

Hope everybody is well. I am a civil engineer. Due to my work I have to visit some construction sites. A few days ago I went to visit a government construction project. I shared some of my experiences with you.

It was in a remote village in Chittagong, Bangladesh. And this construction project is a multipurpose disaster shelter being built for the people of that village. This is a government construction project in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh government is developing these projects to provide shelter to people living in remote villages during the floods. A total of 176 shelters are being constructed.

It is a two storey building. Where it will be used as a school during the summer and during the rainy season or during a disaster it will be used as a disaster shelter.

The total cost of the project is estimated at Tk 200 crore. In the meantime I was assigned by a company to inspect a project under construction. As a consultant engineer of that project. I have only been to that project once. I did not know that The project could be inside such a remote village. Anyway I went by my own company car. But I could not go completely. We had to leave our car a little before that project because the rest of the road in that project was a dirt road. And the road was so narrow that our car could not enter. The rest of the road we had to walk.

As soon as I entered there, I saw the miserable condition of the dirt road. The night before, a cement truck was loaded there. As a result, the road has become more damaged. I ordered the supervisor in charge of the project to fix the road with broken bricks. Because it was not possible to find anything in that place except broken bricks at that moment. So I arranged for a car to be repaired with bricks.

This place is so remote that we could not insert the hydraulic pile machine here. So here is the old pile method (percussion method) had to use.

Then we entered the project. Pile work was going on in the project then. I saw the drawings of the project. I heard about the progress of the work there. And I saw the work of the pile. Yes, those who were working on that project had very little knowledge about safety. I saw them working empty handed, without any shoes, without any safety jacket. So I quickly had a safety meeting with the engineer in charge and the supervisor and the leader of those people. So that they are not harmed in the future.

At the request of their leader, I gave them permission to work for that day. Then they started pile work. When the boring of the pile was over, we did some tests to check the wash of that pile.

  1. density test
  2. Viscosity test.
  3. PH test.
These tests have to be done to make the pile work. And we have to keep these reports for future work. This report will be verified if this pile fails during the work of its structure. So I wrote the test reports correctly in the official form .

The chisel diameter of the pile must be checked before pile work. The diameter of our pile was 500 mm. And the diameter of our pile chisel must be 265 mm.

Then I checked the stone and sand used in this pile. And we sent them to our government lab to select the right quality. There are two types of stone chips used. 1 is 3/4 "and the other is 1/2". And we packed each stone in a 30 kg bag, tied it properly, sealed it and sent it to the lab. It will take some time for the lab report to come. Hopefully the report will come out well.

This is an admixture drum. And it was being used for casting piles. But I rejected it. The reason for the rejection was that no date was mentioned on the drum. I talked to its dealer but did not get any correct answer. And there was no exact date mentioned in the paper. So I sent some samples to our lab.

I know it shouldn't be shared in this group. However, it seems that architectural and design issues are involved in our civil. We all work together, architectural engineers and civil engineers. So I shared this experience with you. If at any time it may be of any use to you. Thanks.
