"I sent it to print, it says it's spooling "
A quiet pause.
*Did you hear me?" shouted my friend. "I said something about spooling."
I heard. It brought back a painful memory. I had to sit down.
"I tried and nearly succeeded," I said, with sorrow etched all over my face.
"What is it. What did you try to save?"
"My complication tape. My favourite songs on one cassette. Carefully chosen."
"Complication tape?"
"Compilation tape."
"Oh, I see. Why don't you make a CD? It's so easy to do."
"It's not the same. Nobody puts the same care into making a compilation CD. They just put a load of songs together. Maybe, they'll listen to it one time. But, it doesn't have the magic of a compilation tape."
"I don't see why not? You listen to the songs as you would before you make the CD. Write them down and then put them together."
"Thank you," I said. "I might try it."
"Really?"
"No. I just don't think it will be the same."
"Try it. Please. For me."
So I thought I would try it. I knew I had a couple of hours free.
"Let's choose one or two songs to get myself going," I thought to myself
A few minutes later, I'm on the phone to my friend.
"No, it's not working."
"Snap out of it, be positive and get with the times, you bitter old relic."
Ouch. That hurt. Made me a bit angry.
A few days later. I met my friend.
"I'm sorry for my harsh words," said my friend.
"No need. I made the best compilation ever," I said. "Maybe it was my mood."
"Do you have a copy?"
"Can that be done?"
"Yes, you could make me a copy."
"No," I said. *I'm shy."
"What exactly is on your CD?"
"Not saying."
