"I'm a writer of original stories," I declared. I am a doctor
"Very good, doc." replied Marty (not McFly). "So what's the problem?"
"I can't get that almanac out of my head. The only plot line I can think of, is to go forward in time and get an almanac of football results."
"That's a great plotline,"
The phone rings. I answer.
"What is it?" I ask.
"Hello doctor."
It's the woman from the original story department.
"A few legal things for you," she said "You need to call Marty, Martin, just in case."
"Ok, I can do that. Anything else?"
"Yes, you need to tell Martin to call you doctor, not Doc. We don't want any legal action."
"Thank you, is there anything else?"
"Don't go forward in time to get an almanac of sports results."
"More legal stuff?" I asked.
"Sort of," replied the woman from the original story department. "By the time you jump 30 years, you won't be able to find an almanac. Not a physical one."
"What shall I write about?" I asked. "I like time travel. I think I'll go to my hot tub and think of a new story."
"As long as the tub doesn't become the time machine, that's fine."
"Don't tell me," I replied. "That's already a plot point of a movie."
"Yes."
"How about, I find an online encyclopedia in the future? I could still get all the football results, except it would be a little different"
"You would ruin all your sporting fun "
She continued.
"Why don't you do something good? Why don't you go forward in time and look for any global disasters? You could then help avert them."
"I tried that," I replied.
"What happened?" she asked.
"Nobody listened."
