Today we delved into this subject in our Vlog and talked about how our life is with our current dog Luci.
As usual, we’ll write a small synopsis of the details below...
Dogs here usually have jobs of some sort and they’re given more freedom than they would have in cities.
Luci and her friend Isa
Luci is a Catahoula and Komondor mix and she turned out great. That’s a sport dog/guard dog breed and she’s a perfect balance of both.
She keeps deer away from our crops so we don’t need a fence and is super playful, athletic and fun.
During deer season we find her with various deer parts, a leg, a haunch, even skulls sometimes.
We do feed her a grain free probiotic rich dog food and on days when we butcher animals, she is a happy girl.
We lost our other dog likely to a rancher who saw him on their property. He was a bit of a roamer, but Luci likes to stay right by our side.
It works out well because she’s usually just lounging around the homestead, sometimes chasing the cats around...but at night becomes a fierce guard animal and we don’t have “vermin issues”. We only lost 2 chickens, one to an opossum and one to a snake. No raccoon or other issues.
She comes with us on most of our adventures. Here we are harvesting paw paws.
