It’s all in the smile;
bring the corners of the eyes in to it,
let the teeth out and feel the muscles pull
the lips up.
It’s within the corners and wrinkles that you can hide.
Make it warm and charming
Complete it with a touch on the arm.
Shaking hands with a laugh and slap on the back,
Make them feel something nice for a second,
after all, wanted is all anyone wants
and it’s easy to give
an impression, a wink, a knowing laugh
to let them feel you there.
That’s the mannequin that lets you stand in the room
while you wander miles away.
Most of those bodies won’t notice that you left for a second
and returned long enough for a quick
“uh huh, no kidding, that’s interesting”
and off you go.
