One of the most impressive sights when visiting Thailand and its rich culture is the architectural development of traditional temples.
The roofs are made of an ingenious overlapping design, decorated with excellent details, which have also proven to be useful in deflecting heavy rains from tropical downpours and humidity, so as to last for centuries.
Another unique feature of these buildings is the shape of the windows, which gives them a distinctive point, reminiscent of European Gothic architecture.
The photo was taken in the impressive building of the temple called Wat Chalong (or Wat Chaiyathararam) and is the largest, most famous, and respected Buddhist temple in the island of Phuket. It was built in the early 19th century or, according to other sources, in 1837.
The temple is considered to be one of the most respected places in the region, connected with many legends and popular figures such as Luang Pho Chaem, who practiced traditional medicine and helped his people during difficult times. The building complex is decorated with exquisite details on the roof, carved in bright red and golden colors, high golden spires, and stupas. The main tower, the chedi, reaches a height of 60 meters, keeping the sacred bone relic of the Buddha.
