The weather here in Cape Town has been resembling that of Britain for the last two months. It’s been mostly overcast and rainy all the time, personally my favorite kind of weather. But in an effort to see our friends more often, who have small children, we ended up heading out to a bike park conveniently situated on a rather beautiful wine estate in Constantia, about 20 minutes drive from the city. If memory serves me correctly, this was of the first areas in the Cape where wine farm were created. The area is named after the daughter of the guy who gave it to one of the early Dutch settlers.

There was just something stunning about this very modern glass wine cellar now being the center piece on this really old wine estate, dating back about 300 years. The wines from Constantia are also pretty well known and sort after, apparently Napoleon Bonaparte had over a thousand liters of wine shipped to him each year from this area.

Funny enough I didn’t even have any wine, I opted for a lovely craft beer and some ice cream. But if you’re ever down here pop into Constantia Uitsig Wine Estate.
