Kia Ora, dear visitor and bird lover. When i was visiting friends who are living in rural New Zealand, somewhere between Ngaruhawahia and Te Kowhai, i met Salvador the poser, ähm, the peacock. The story goes that this guy just showed up on the farm one day and didn't leave for quiet some time, so they kind of adopted him as part of the family and gave him that name. From time to time he disappeared for a while and suddenly reappeared as he saw fit, we don't know where he was going or what he was doing in those times, but it made everybody happy when he came back. What can one expect, he's a free bird.
Meet Salvador
Let's start with a few portraits of that beautiful bird with the funny looking head, nevertheless with some serious facial expressions.

Salvador in all his Glory
The head of a peacock is kind of the funny part and everything else from his feathers to his walks is just pure natural beauty and elegance. All of this has it's natural reasons of course, like for mating rituals or scaring away enemies, but since there were no female peacocks on the farm my friends just called him the old poser or show-off most of the time.

And from the other side too, of course. By the way, when posing he was doing it on that exact same spot every time and he was parading around in circles.

Salvador & Friends
Don't panic! I'm not going to let you leave with his back as your last impression of Salvador and therefore here are some group shots at lunch time with some of his friends.

The geese were friendly either most of the time, but you know those typical geese, they always have to complain and make a fuzz about something
Some day the beloved peacock Salvador went on one of his journeys away from the farm and didn't return for a very long time so my friends were really worried about him. They always expected him to get hit by a car on one of the roads and sadly that is exactly what happened on his recent journey and now he's posing in heaven. Rest in peace dear funny old poser Salvador and Kia Ora to you dear reader.
For the curious:
The two small words, KIA ORA, signify more than just a greeting. They have many meanings, but in their literal sense, ORA refers to a state of living, or being alive. Together with KIA, it changes it from a noun to a verb, so rather than alive it is living then. When you say KIA ORA to someone, you are wishing kind of the essence of life upon them.
PS: I wasn't shure which one to pick for the contest, but i think one of the two shots of Salvador posing with his open feathers should be appropriate for the theme "Big Birds", but feel free to choose any of the other shots either. No no, stop! Not the one from behind, please 😜
