The rotten tomato is the worst movie scoring idea ever, the way it work that it collect the critique review and then it take the score and turn it to rotten or not fresh
for example one give it 5.4/10 it counts as rotten and if 6.1 it will be fresh
now then will collect for example 100 fresh and rotten movie and give it a score for example 80 rotten and 20 fresh
the score will be 20/100 while the real score average can be 6 or 7 out of 10
Now the reason i care about this is that this score is influencing box office number in a major way and the method have many flues
for example if the website collected 20 review 12 rotten and 8 fresh but the websites want to make the score higher, they can use the Beta effect, whats the beta u ask? will its simply like this a high number of so called critique are Beta which means they are not willing to risk being the first people who show their opinion in a movie because, the movie final score could be opposite to that and basically he will lose reputation among the critique community, i will be amazed with how many time a critique gets fired for liking/disliking a movie.
My point is the website can release 8 fresh and 2 rotten at first then they will keep the other 10 rotten reviews for the next update or the one after, the score for the movie now is 80% Beta critique will most differently then give a fresh review and therefore manipulating the score.
Another thing is paying off critiques!!!!
Ok obviously they don't pay them in a direct way because this could destroy the company reputation
Let's say Disney wants a high score for a movie that they think will not do good they already employee a large sum of critiques through affiliating companies like ABC , and can invite the other powerful critiques to VIP showing and give them opportunities, its like when a politician raise funds from banks its actually a bribery but that is a discussion for another day
My point is Rotten Tomato suck
