So, for today I wanted to make a post "what happened a month ago" where I would explain in details what happened, what it means, what happened after it, with a lot of details. I thought about what would I wrote many many times, I even started writing a few times, I talked about this so many times with many other people here, as at some point (right after it happened) it was the main subject of any conversation with anyone. And I thought that now that things might look a little better and that something could change, I could finally write about it, but I decided not to. I just can't and I won't.
Instead, I decided to participate in the #weekend-engagement by @galenkp and choose three meaningful words that will help to explain to you what is happening and how it effects me and others here, and also use photos that
I took this weekend as well.
Tragedy
Let's start from the begining, the tragedy. It happened a month ago, on 3rd and 4th of May, we had 2 massive shootings, 17 people (most of them children and young people) died and over 20 were injured. The first shooting was in school, done by a child. The second was done the day after, by a 20-years old boy. These things happen in the world, but here we never had school shooting, and massive shooting are rare. Therefor, this was very shocking for everyone, to say at least. This tragedy effected everyone, it was really devastating even for people who were not related to the victims, it felt like we were, and it was loss for everyone.
Empathy
Positive side, if there could be one, from this tragedy, is seeing how many people still have so much empathy in them. People coming to pay respect for the victims, to leave a flower, to light a candle. People crying for people they never met and they probably never will, but feeling their sorrow as their own. They are many signs on protest related to this, but I would like to show you one from yesterday, it says "look at you Serbia, tears are coming from your eyes". And it was related to tv apperance of the father of one of the victims, where he made people in the studio cry, so he said the line to those around him. At this protest as people were talking, they made many other in the public cry as well.
Love
As last word, I chose love. In the world full of hate, I believe love is still there, it exists, and we have to make more attention to love then hate. We have to teach young generations to love nature, people, life, to love everything we can and everyone we can. I believe love brings happiness, and if people are loved, feel love and feel happy, much more beautiful things will come instead of bad. So hug someone, kiss someone, be kind to someone today. Your smile and a few nice worlds can make someone's days.
I will share some more of the photos from this weekend and the atmosphere from the protests.
** Disclamer/context: Tragedy, combined with years of terrible government, lead people to finally wake up and say that things have to change, drastically. This is why big protests started, and this weekend it was the fifth, third that I participate in. Protests are against violence of any kind, and usually it's a walk with tens of thousands of other people, hoping things will change and get better. That would be it for the context, and I don't want to talk more about it because it will just become endless, and also I don't want to make in into a political post, so I will just share some of the photos from yesterday, as I enjoyed 3 hours outside with friends, with nice weather, and 5-6 km walk.
Hope you all had a nice weekend, and thank you for reading my post ^^
