I have been at it again this week making some silver bits, i made a very chunky bracelet at 9 troy ounces.
The start of any project needs a little planning and making sure you have enough silver to cast an item is key, the bracelet on the right is made of resin"33 grams" and to work out how much silver i would need has a little calculation.
(resin specific gravity 1.2)
(sterlng silver specific gravity 10.1)
10.1 / 1.2 = 8.416
8.416 x 33.6(weight of resin) = 282 grams (weight of silver needed
Usually you need 10 to 15% more silver for the pouring channel as the gravity helps force the silver into the mould.
The delft clay has reached the end of its life and has become a but crumbly so a bit more work with the sandpaper & files is needed but it will clean up ok and the customer has asked for it too look a little rough and aged.
This is one seriously chunky item, it has a few casting marks but this is what i have been asked for and i aim to please, PS who ever wins the superbowl will have the medallion made using new clay and a brand new crucible which i have ordered.
