Yellowing Disease Condition of Growing Groundnuts plants, How to prevent spread and proper care of healthy plants
Hello Hive
Do you grow peanuts?
Have you spotted any disease condition in the plant before?
How did you go about it?
Here is a portion of our Groundnuts that are still enjoying the rains and and good weather condition. Hopefully they will soon start their own second flowering stage to produce some food for us.
Our Groundnuts weren't all planted at the same time hence while some are ready for harvest others are just about to enter their own flowering stage. For these other sets harvest will continue until the very end of the month of October.
While checking out the Groundnuts farm in preparation for harvest I spotted this disease condition that
affected the bulk of our nut plant last year.
This yellow disease condition is sometime we don't understand yet. It started lasted and out of nowhere a groundnut plant will just start having yellow color until it eventually burns out.
Having a little bit of book knowledge in Agric sector would have made it easy to diagnose this disease and find a possible lasting solution to it.
Most of the Agric Experts we have here do not find it necessary to follow us to farms to diagnose our sick plants in order to find a lasting solution to it. We are often left with adopting the conventional means of spreading disease conditions in our crops.
Whenever you find a sickness condition in your plants like this, what we normally do is to uproot and burn the sick plant to prevent the further spread of the disease.
Sometimes we pour ashe over the plants and the soil to reduce the acidity of the soil that can sometimes cause a form of yellowing condition in crops. When the soil is too acidic some of these experience is common.
A permanent solution is mostly needed especially for this kind of disease that often cause severe damages in plants. I could remember how we couldn't harvest anything from some portion of the farm last year even after multiple burning to contain the spread of the disease.
Although the disease started at the very easy stage if growth of the nut plant last year, for this year, the plants have grown so much and with consistent rainfall we are hoping that nothing much will be affected here.
