It is yet another new and beautiful day on the earth and we are grateful for the gift of life. I had hope to stay awake all night to attend to my seminar presentation coming up by month end but the stress from the farm had me sleeping that even an alarm clock couldn't wake me up.
At least after today I would have the whole of Sunday to refresh myself and focus on a academics a little. Bulk of the stress we are feeling now is as a result of the work on the rice field. Just Yesterday that we have switched work I can feel a little easy.

Weeding grasses off our Beans farm can never be much of a hard work as transplanting rice in the swamp. Since we have now put a stop to the transplanting of rice, we now have as much time to attend to other activities and crops seeking our attention

Beans is one of the crops that is grown in the later months of the farming season. Planting of beans is done from the month of August here. Although some people may chose to plant these earlier but for us that are typically busy with rice initially this is the time we plant beans.

About 2 or 3weeks ago we have had some children assist us with planting of this beans. Since the farm was already taken over by bushes I had thought that it was a good idea to plant the beans first and then spray some herbicide to clear off the weeds before the beans begins to germinate

This is one of the easier process we follow to avoid this kind of manual weeding. The only challenge we now had was that the children who applied the herbicides didn't do a good job and the grasses refused to give way. Now that the beans have germinated, herbicides can no longer be applied hence we have to engage in a manual weeding here. Bit by bit we have started with clearing and weeding grasses from the beans farm.
We can't possibly grow only rice as cereals without adding some protenious legume plants. This is why we make it a duty to grow beans along side our rice every year.
