Now for the record I would like to state that I love my job but I know a lot of people who don’t. People despise their jobs and every moment of it. So how can one start to like their job if they hate it?
In my home country (India), an astronomical amount of people are smart and skillful but due to the reason that the population is huge, a lot of these people miss out and our unemployed. According to government data for 2017, 25 million people applied for 90,000 opening in Indian Railways. That is one successful candidate amongst 278 (approx.) candidates. Some of these candidates are way over-qualified and apply for underpaying jobs. Why are these people applying for these jobs you may ask? The reason is to put food on the table for their families. Now if we think of our own jobs, it should make us feel better that your job helps you pay the bills and put food on the table for our loved ones.
So if we stop loving your job maybe our efficiency will start to go up and if our performance improves, people will see our contribution and might award us with tangible and intangible benefits and this might end up to become an upwards spiral that carries on in our personal life as well, making it happy and abundant.
The second and the most important part to solve this problem which is true for everything else in life is focusing on what is right. Focusing on what is good about our job. Make a list of all the things we like about our job, everything. I know people might say that we hate it there and there is absolutely nothing we like about it. Well, we just said that having the money in the bank account is the greatest incentive to work, so there is number one. We can think of innumerable things like the 401K, insurance plans, profit-sharing schemes or any other benefits and incentives that are provided to us. The specific people we enjoy working with and so forth. Every night before you go to bed, read this list and you will see the things around us change so drastically. Remember that we are lucky to have what we have because most people don’t.
