As Nigeria marks her 66th independence anniversary, it is a strong reminder of how far we have come as a people. It also shows the possibilities that lie ahead. You have to understand that independence is more than just a date in a calendar, but it is also a reminder of our duties and responsibilities as a people to build the kind of nation that we are proud of. That is, a nation where every citizen is given the right to live, to dream, to work together, and to prosper.

It is true that Nigeria has experienced periods of difficulties in the past 66 years, but it is also worthy to note that she has also experienced moments of triumph. Nigeria may have faced economic challenges, political disagreements, insecurities, obstacles, and a lot of other challenges that have tested her resilience. But in all these, we have overcome as a nation, and it will definitely get better. Nigeria and her people have remained remarkably strong, and we have continued to rise, adapt, create, thrive, and push forward. As a people, we have kept matching upwards and forward towards greater heights.

One of the greatest strengths of Nigeria is her people. You will agree with me that Nigeria is home to hardworking people, from the agricultural sector, production sector, health, ICT, teaching, civil service, and other fields of human endeavours. In addition to this, Nigeria is home to many breathtaking landmarks, rich mineral deposits, and a lot of other natural resources. But beyond that, are the people who have constantly worked and contributed to building the nation. It is true that Nigeria may not be where she had planned to be at the moment, but the truth is that there is hope, and greatness will definitely come.

Nigeria's future will definitely not be determined by the challenges she has faced alone, but it will be determined and shaped by how we have chosen to respond to these challenges. Every great nation started from somewhere. This is why I believe that the future of Nigeria will be great. This is a call for Nigeria as a people to choose hope over despair, to choose hardwork over excuses, to choose integrity over corruption, to chose unity over division, and to choose to take responsibilities. We have to understand that it is not the responsibility of the government alone to build a nation, but everyone in their own capacity has a part to play.

It is is worthy to note that a better Nigeria will definitely begin with how each of us live, and with the little things we do in our daily lives. For example, doing our jobs honestly, respecting ourselves and one another, having respect for the rule of law, protecting public properties, supporting ourselves, helping to educate others, and assisting in one way or the other. You do not have to be in the government for you to create an impact. Right from your environment, there is something you can do to make a difference. When every does their own part in their own way, it will create a massive impact, and that is how a great nation is built.

It is true that Nigeria is home to hundreds of ethnic groups, tribes, language, and a lot of other religions backgrounds. However, our diversity should not be a source of weakness, rather it should be our source of unity and strength. These differences, when utilised well, can become a very powerful foundation for cooperation, creativity, and national strength. As we celebrate our 66th independence anniversary, this is a call for us to renew our commitment to building the kind of nation we want to see.

God bless Nigeria. God bless us all.
