Ever heard the story of the weeping lady who weeps at night in the woods during the full moon?
She would come out at 12 midnight, weeping and wailing, saying these words;
Lies! lies!!, I was told
That our hearts would kindle as one
Befooled and beguiled, the truth is unfold
Ah!, my ears still rings from the sound of your gun
I curse your heart and I curse your home
From under this moon which we once stood
where we made our vow under the moon's dome
Ah, you will know no peace only feud
But my love where are thee?
It's freezing out here
The cold hand of death clasps me
'pon my death, did you even shed a tear?
My love, where are thee,where are thee
I am all alone, unite with me I plea.
No one has ever claimed to have seen the weeping lady, or know which person her words were for either, but like every myth, there's always a tale that follows;
Apparently, there was indeed a young Adeline Summers who was found dead in the woods from a bullet wound straight through her chest.
it is said that, she had a lover, and her love for this man was so great that despite her family's disapproval, she still persevered. Adeline came from a rich family in England. She fell in love with the farmboy who works in her family's estate. Drawn to his charms and he to hers their love kindled.
Adeline was so head over heels that she'd sneak out at night to meet her lover in the woods where they'd have privacy to talk about their day, family dramas, fantasies about how they'd get married, and the number of children they'd have, her lover would always get saddened to the fact that he doesn't have enough to take care of her but she'd retort saying “it does not matter to me if you're rich or poor, I love you and that's all that matters”, she'd kiss him in affirmation, then they'd make love, basked in the moonlight.
On a quite intriguing day, her lover was out working on the farm then she snuck out of her mansion, rushed down to him and in low tone she whispered “It's a full moon tonight, meet me at our usual spot, I want to show you something”, then she smiled and ran back up so her parents wouldn't see her talking to him. At night, she arrived earlier waiting for her lover, she waited for almost an hour pacing around back and forth, till he finally showed up. He made excuses as to why he was late, but it didn't matter Adeline had something else in mind. She told him that she was willing to give herself to him eternally and that it doesn't matter what her parents thought or said, that she is deeply in love with him, then she looked up and pointed at the moon which was full, at its peak. She told him she wanted them to make a vow with the moon bearing witness that their love would be eternal and that they'd defile all odds just to be together, he agreed to this. They drew each other's blood and vowed with the moon's blessing. Oh, if only love were ever that simple...
Years past and the love story between Adeline and her paramour still persist, smiles and happy had never seized from her face until that tragic fire that burned her parents in their sleep. Guilt and pain griped Adeline's soul as she curses her heart for not being home that night of the fire, she had been out in her usual spot with her lover. If only she had been home she thought, she would have saved her family. Her tears were not long till they dried out, now left with the entire inheritance as the sole heir which she was, she went on to get married to her paramour, so as to make their love story licit. With trust being an interesting factor in a relationship, Adeline entrusted her inheritance to her paramour's care, unbeknownst to her, tragedy was glooming.
Was it all a ruse? did he ever love her? One might ask, but how do we describe human nature, with the diversity in every person's conscience. As the tale goes, a year has passed after Adeline and her paramour got married, then one unholy night, Her paramour told her that he misses the fun they used to have in the woods, he claimed he wanted to feel what he felt back then, Adeline concurred claiming she misses it too, so they both decide to go into the woods that night. They both got to their usual spot, they stood close to each other, each looking into the other eyes, Adeline looked up and saw the moon was full and at its peak, she signaled her paramour to look up, then she asked if he remembered the pact they made that night, he replied “yes”, that he never forgot, then he kissed her. After a while, he said he needed to take a leak, that he'd be back in a bit, then he left leaving Adeline alone in the woods. Minutes later a loud sound was heard! it was a bang! Adeline fell on the floor, her blood all over the place, She gasped for air, calling out her paramour as her life started leave her. And thus ends Adeline's love story as she died, murdered in cold blood.
Till this day, no one has seen or heard from Adeline's paramour, nor know who he was, it was like he just vanished from the face of the earth leaving no trace, and Adeline's inheritance gone. A century past, the lore of the weeping lady still remained in the minds of people. Some have describe her weeping as utter anguish and pain. But who knows...
