This is a gentle Intro to the Piedmont Roll Guitar Technique Fingerstyle or Fingerpicking. Fingerstyle is the correct term for this way of playing guitar but many people use the term fingerpicking. The two terms have distinct differences but they seem to have become interchangable these days.
In a nutshell fingerstyle is just using our fingers. Fingerpicking is where we use a plectrum and fingers.

The Piedmont roll technique is deeply associated with the Delta Blues and has a long and distinquished history with many excellent exponents of the style including Sun House, Leadbelly, Robert Johnson and a host of other brilliant players.
