Hello all steemians and science lover. Now i want to share simple ways how to create A Simple Compass. This experiment will teach the child about the direction of the wind and magnetism.

Tools needed in this experiment:

  1. Abowl of water
  2. Needle
  3. Magnet
  4. Cork or styrofoam or other lightweight objects that can float in water.

How to experiment:

  1. Swipe the needle over the magnet in the same direction several times to make the needle magnetic
  2. Put the needle on styrofoam, then let it float in a bowl of water.
  3. The needle will rotate to show the north-south direction.
  4. Mark which part points north and point south, then turn the bowl. Then the needle will rotate and keep showing north-south direction.

Compass Reading

Find out if the magnetic needle is working properly. Needles and coins of cork or leaves floating on water should slowly rotate in the same direction or opposite to the north or south point. If it does not move, it means the needle is not working properly. You should pull back and rub the needle with a magnet.
