Welcome back to our Weekly Battle Mage Secrets!
This week, we are featuring the Back to Basics ruleset.

Back to Basics: Monsters lose all abilities

Synergies include:

  • Magic damage - can frontline and pierces armor
  • Void armor - summoners like Rathe can shine really well as it adds extra tankiness
  • Pierce - On the flip side, Pierce is also helpful since you can expect enemies to provide extra armor or void armor
  • +HP - having extra HP can help you outlast your enemies

This week's feature is from a recent brawl I had. This is a gold league fray and the ruleset includes:

image.png

  • Super Sneak - All Melee attack Monsters have the Sneak ability
  • Noxious Fumes - All Monsters start the battle Poisoned
  • Back to Basics - Monsters lose all abilities

For usual back to basics ruleset, I would usually prefer Rathe like I mentioned earlier since it has void armor and increases tankiness of monsters. However, in this match, we have noxious fumes so having more HP has greater value here which is why we got Billy (Possibilus) instead.

Round 1

Since Billy grants +2 HP, you'll see that overall HP is heavily skewed in my favor. We're expecting that by the third round, the last 3 monsters should be gone while mine should still be able to hold.

Equipping the front line with a Torrent Fiend to tank 1 or 2 hits is already of significant value and having the reach ability helps the Flying Squid get hits in as well as becoming the secondary tank.

Round 2

With round 2, backline tank with taunt is still able to hold and can tank a couple more hits and Billy's effect starts to shine even more. Oshannus and Tridawn are also still relatively healthy on my end compared to theirs.

Round 3

Come round 3, as per our expectations, those 4 HP enemy monsters are pretty much gone and Tridawn and Kye are left with 3 and 4 HP respectively while my Oshannus and Tridawn are still hanging in there.

Round 4

At this point, it's pretty much in the bag as it becomes an HP game.
