Or the Balkan syndrome.
I could never understand this.
We got this benches in front the block where I live. (It's old Soviet type of building, still very popular in my country as we use to be part of the columnism movement once.) The buildings outside looks nasty, poor and in bad shape but I can assure you inside people's apartments it's nice, clean and cozy. Once I had good friend visiting from Norway and he got almost scared before entering the apartment 🙃
But anyway... You got the idea, outside is ugly.
People do take care of what they "own" but no one gives a duck about the common parts!
Why?! You go thru this common parts every day... before work, after work... does it feel good?! But is not your shits, right?! You didn't make it, you don't care. Just close your eyes!
Such a wrong, destructive way of thinking! One for all, everyone for themselves.
I don't want dig deeper, how is lack ot culture, education, self-awareness and so on but it is and it says a lot...!!!
And it doesn't says nothing good.
People sit on this benches everyday, young kids, teenagers, adults... they sit around and pass by literally through garbage! Come on, people. Wake the duck up! It's doesn't take that much... but oh, wait, it does when you are small minded, ignorant and stupid. No offense. Just the truth.
So...Every month, once or twice I CLEAN. Sometimes, occasionally and rare even other neighbors participate but when they see the results after few days: it's pretty much like we DIDN'T clean anything, they got discouraged very fast. And I get it. It's hard when there's no respect and gratitude, when 90% of the society neglect it ...at some point you don't find any sense to keep doing it.
I know it is a small act, but I will try to keep it up. Many reasons and principles lie behind that.
Or I may be just too stubborn. 🙂
And it should be: One for all, all for one.
