Don't panic
Well, when a break down happens you most likely are thinking "I wish my mechanic could just fix it right now"... Or so the story usually goes. This one was quite interesting actually and quite frankly had me stumped... Well... Momentarily anyway. The picture is of a key for a 2012 Dodge ram 3500. What happened? Well It would make a fellow panic for sure! While driving down the road this vehicle decided to shut off all by itself! Well... If that doesn't make any sense then try starting it back up and it shuts right back off .... 🤔Now I'm puzzled. This vehicle should NOT be doing this. So the call of desperation.

HELP!!!
Or so the story goes... Can you see if you can figure it out and fix it? I was asked and thinking it shouldn't be too hard I agreed. I show up where the truck is parked an begin to diagnose the problem. Full battery voltage✓ fuel pressure✓ air supply✓well the main 3 seemed to be working like they should and no engine codes indicated that it was going into a shutdown mode.

Now what?
I guess if everything was simple we wouldn't need help... Or so they say. Well I pulled out my "favorite go to for help" a trouble shooting diagnosis for mechanical failure. And after a little bit I found the a remedy.

The problems cure.
If the picture doesn't look confusing then you must be a genius! The problem was in the ignition, which is the switch board pictured. I discovered that when the key is turned on it has to complete a full contact circuit in order to start and remain running. In this case the contact was contaminated with debris and couldn't complete full contact. While most shops say replace the whole ignition module and have the computer reflashed. We needed a cure because we were on the side of the road and it was Sunday.... The contacts were inside this boxIMG_20170903_155119650.jpg
When I opened it I found the circuit board and the contact that was dirty. I keep an electrical contact cleaning solution with me and a cleaning stick. I put a few drops at a time on the contact and gently rubbed it of. Reinstalled it and it fired right up!

Mission complete!
I had it all done in a little over an hour. Saving him a tow bill plus down time and a $800 part that any other shop would have most definitely installed. Needless to say my repair bill had this guy grinning from ear to ear!

Signing off
Well for everyone that follows me wondering where I've been... I've had a few issues with uploading stories. I've figured out the issue and hopefully I'll be back sooner than later. Thank you for reading upvoting and resteeming. It is very much appreciated!
