Sticking my hand outside to grab some snow and watching it melt as I watch through my lens can create some pretty interesting macros.

As the snow melts and turns to ice the light will start to change how it reflects. Using a Nikon 105mm macro lets me get close but not to close to block out the light. Letting the light shimmer and reflect off the melting ice gives each little chunk or melting snow its own character.

I like the simplicity as it doesn't take much effort to gather up some snow in my hand and place it inside. If a set of shots doesn't seem to be catching my interest I just grab some more snow and start again.
