When I first heard that the judges response to all of this was that Tommy knew what he was getting himself into, I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about it. I agreed with the judge that Tommy knew what he was getting himself into, but I did not agree with the sentence itself. But after hearing more and more about the situation I now know that my initial feeling was totally right.
Tommy knows as the face of the UK Nationalist movement that he may very well end up being a martyr. I'm sure he isn't hoping for that ending, but theres no way he hasn't come to terms with it by now. The guy knows exactly how the UK government will react to all of the things that he does, and he still continues to do them. Granted that I cant know for sure but I would assume that Tommy is the kind of person that would rather die than live in a world where he cant express himself the way he wants. I also assume he understands that unless people are willing to fight back against this injustice regardless of the consequences it will remain forever, so for that I applaud him in his actions. But still I'm not surprised by the UK governments response. The media gag order is not something out of the ordinary. While it's not something that we have here in America, it does serve a purpose that while I'm not quite sure if I agree with it or not I can personally relate to. You also must take into account that Tommy Robinson was under court order to not interfere with the judicial process in any way at all. So what option other than to send him to jail did the judge really have here? The police who arrested him and the judge that sentenced him are all just playing their parts in a system that every able minded adult who lives in the UK willingly take part in. I can understand how there are people who don't like the rules of the game, but if thats the case why not either change the rules, or play a different game.
I guess what I'm really trying to say is that it shouldn't have taken Tommy Robinson's arrest to have people speaking out against this totalitarian suppression of speech. Those of you who don't live in countries that have constitutionally defended freedom of speech, should have been up in arms over the fact that you don't a long time ago. This isn't to say that anyone should go out and hurt anyone specific, But as an American I can say that at one point in history the majority of the people that live my own country would have had no problem taking this right by force. This is exactly why we left England, and why our country exists in first place. The entire reason the 1st and 2nd amendments exist in the first place is a testament to this. The 1st secures our freedom to express ourselves freely, while the 2nd secures our ability to fight any form of tyranny or oppression that would wish to suppress this freedom given by the 1st amendment. I'd like to think that it goes without saying that unless you have both of these you are a slave your government and need to stop pretending that you're anything else. Sure they may treat you nicely for the time being but so did slave masters treat house niggers until they said something out of line.
While it may be true that violence is not always the answer. It's also true that the only way to obtain power is to take it. Some say power must be given, but unless you take it when it presents itself then you still don't have it.
