There is an eloquent Nigerian writer I think her name is Adiche. I saw her on Ted Talks and enjoyed her oration about the danger of a single story. I wish I could share the Ted Talk she did with everyone as a basic lesson on critical thinking. She spoke of ways that she had been pre judged based on someone else's perception. The media, social media, ads, hearsay and cultural norms shape our perception without our permission from the time that we are little. If you ask someone is it acceptable to lie you would hear answers about morals if the person you ask is "Christian". The same will turn around a lie to children about Santa Claus. My sociology book says that reality is shaped by our perceptions, evaluations, and definitions. To me this means that my opinions are not always truly "mine". I am on a quest to figure out how I truly feel about things without the subjective voice of society. Does anyone else fear the there thoughts are clouded ?
