In the world of cryptocurrency, not only technological developments are important, but also how a network makes decisions plays a big role in the long run. Recently, the Solana Foundation launched a new governance system that aims to make the network's decision-making process more participatory.

This new system is called Solana Governance Proposals, or SGP for short. Through this, for the first time, ordinary SOL stakers will have the opportunity to directly vote if they disagree with the decision of their validators. To me, this seems like an important change for the Solana ecosystem.

Previously, the situation was different. Those who staked their SOL tokens had their voting rights mainly managed through the validators to whom they delegated their tokens. As a result, when the validators voted on a decision, the stakers did not have the opportunity to express their opinions separately. The new system has largely removed that limitation.

Under SGP, a certain amount of stake support will be required to raise any important proposal on the network. After receiving initial support, it will have to go through various stages of discussion, verification and voting. That is, not every idea will go directly to the vote; it will first be verified whether it has gained enough support or not.

The most interesting thing is the "staker override" feature. If a validator votes for or against a proposal and none of his stakers agree with that decision, he can cast his own vote. Even after the validator has voted, the staker can change his position within a specified time and vote directly.

In my opinion, this will further strengthen the decentralization of the network. Because the power will not be limited to the hands of the validators. Ordinary participants will also be able to express their opinions on important decisions.

Another important thing is that this new framework does not replace the existing development process of Solana. Rather, it will work alongside the Solana Improvement Documents (SIMDs) used for technical development. That is, SIMDs will remain for creating technical solutions, and SGP will play an important role in major policy or economic decisions.

In the past, there have been huge controversies about some proposals on the Solana network. In particular, some proposals regarding inflation changes and fee structures have caused disagreements among validators. The new SGP framework could bring such controversial issues under a more transparent and formal voting process.

The SOL market price also reacted positively to the announcement. While short-term price changes do not always guarantee long-term success, investors seem to be viewing the initiative positively.

Overall, I think Solana’s new governance model is not just a technical update. It is an attempt to shift the balance of power in the network, where the voice of ordinary stakers will be much more important than before. Only time will tell how effective this system will be in the future, but it is clear that Solana is moving towards a more participatory and transparent structure.
