I have seen a lot of posts on Web 2 and Web 3 platforms about the awareness of centralized platforms such as Youtube- terminating accounts- or as many in the world speak- flash their centralizing power. Often- Web 3.0 platforms respond in such posts and comment boards to head over to Web 3.0 platforms such as @3speakonilne and Dtube and others' - where it's completely decentralized- and "censorship resistant" and other hype words proving to be the opposite of centralized platforms.
My question.. is .. are these platforms REALLY that different? Steemit and Steem platform were using those kinds of words and phrases to promote the same things. But, as we saw during the Steem Hive war at the end- Justin Sun was "censoring" any posts that included Hive. And as Hive claims to be a copy of Steem (just now not under the vulnerable control of Justin's ninja mined stake) the question comes to mind of why the same thing can't be done by Hive whales and devs.
I feel as though we don't question the validity of someone claiming "censor resistant" UNTIL it becomes apparent. So with that being said- do whales on Hive not have the power to basically Censor the chain? In no way shape or form am I making a claim to that happening now- nor am I saying that was the original intention to manipulate people into thinking its decentralized and censor resistant- only to secretly have the same powers as other Web 2 platforms. But is the foundation/structure of Hive not vulnerable to also being censored?
Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the matter?
