This immediately brought to mind my own chipped cup, which if I discarded it would leave a gap in the cupboard and I don't see the need to replace it. It isn't my favourite, but it is more preferred than some others.
Also the quirks of other worn things in the house is so true. I am a cleaner and have cleaned for some of my clients for years now, so I've learnt the same in their houses. At houses where I wash their dishes I know which are their favourites and stack them so they can be reached first. I know which taps have the attachments that need tightening occasionally so the tap doesn't pop off when you use it. 😆
