Have you ever crawled out of bed trying to wake up your son to go to school on a Monday morning?
Every Sunday night my son begs me to wake him up before I go to work on Monday. It is no easy task. I play songs with his name on it to get him to wake up. For my son John I play, "Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny" from the Andrew's Sisters to get him to get up. It's get plenty of trumpets and plenty of pizzazz to get him up. But he doesn't get up. He just puts his covers over his head.
Each day it is the same routine.
I call his name pull his covers up give him some water, none of it works because he falls back to sleep again. By the time he gets out of bed I'm already late for the bus. This ruins my whole day. So I decided to turn his phone on before I go and then after I'm gone to call him. He is really good at picking up his alarm. His alarm rings to the first few licks of eye of the tiger and always picks up his phone although he doesn't always wake up after answering.
The problem is that as soon as Saturday comes along I am exhausted and suddenly my kids have a super energy charge Saturday morning.
From 6 am they are jumping on me saying, "Daddy wake up!" Back when I was a kid there was a thing called "Saturday Morning Cartoons." The networks played cartoons to keep kids from waking up their parents Saturday morning. Of course we became corrupted by violent programming but our parents slept well each Saturday. My strategy in raising these kids is to bore them until they become creative. Little by little I take away their toys and give them away to some friend or charity. They're like, "Hey dad. Where's that noisy car we used to play with?"
I replace the toys with some simple art supplies and roller blades and boxing gloves. The little one is picking up quick on the hints but somehow he too is up bright and early Saturday morning. I think the only cure for this madness is to join them. I've got to set an alarm Friday night to remind me to go to bed early. Either that or teach them how to watch Saturday morning cartoons until their brains melt.

Later my son drew in the faces and my wife's picture in the corner. They don't dare bother her on Saturday. He also drew in my face looking a little anxious. He knows that I have to get to work in the morning. Actually the kids are so sweet but there are some basic difficulties in daily life that bring a little humor to the sketchbook.

I draw other stuff as well, but stick figures make the message more simple. I plan to add my other characters as guest into the stickman world later. Below is my pencil sketch of today's stickman. I go erase the pencil marks and then go over it with a marker. I learned today not to smear the marker before it dries. After the marker dries then you can erase around it well.
