My Three for Tuesday look back to the history of music and in doing so I find some wisdom for the future.
Just Ice brings us the history of hip hop in the Bronx. When I was just a little boy these neighborhood boys were making a scene in New York. He includes Kae Gee, Sasquash, Clark Kent and the Flash. These guys named themselves after super heros, but they were the patriarchs of Rap and Hip Hop.
Going Further back in time to the classical period we find a tribute to Mozart. This song is from the Austrian musician Falco. Parts of the song are a rap in German but are easy to understand. Amadeus was a punk and now he is a super star.
I need to go further back to understand 2023. I need to go back to the time of swing and big bang. I got it. Let's go back to 1947 just a couple years after the great war and right before the start of the Korean year. The world seemed just as messed up as it is now. There seemed to be no solution to the world's problems, except one: "Santa Claus for President".
I know Biden kind of looks like Santa Claus, but this song is trying to show the innocent heart of children who wait for Santa Claus and love the joy he brings. They are sick of the world's politicians and want to see Santa Claus as President. Maybe that's not a bad idea.
I'll start 2023 by campaigning for Santa Claus to be President.
