Who wrote the book of love?
Love is a crazy thing. My parents have been married over fifty years. It's not magic. Their love matured from kids' love into long suffering love including acceptance, forgiveness and perseverance.
They don't just put up with each other. They really love each other even after all these years. I see pictures of them hanging out and hiking on glaciers in Alaska and they look like teenagers. My dad considers my mom to be an angel and my mom treats my dad like a prince.
It's kind of weird but I saw them go through so many difficult times and they stayed together by the power of love. I'm really proud of them for giving it one more chance.
As for me I have a lot to learn. I really need to have a lot of patience to endure 찬소리 (chan-so-ri) from my wife. I guess 찬소리 (chan-so-ri) that is "nagging" in English. I think the only way to overcome is to grow in love and a good way to do that is to listen to some classics.
The Monotones - "Book of Love"
Warren Davis, George Malone and Charles Patrick were the original 1955 New Jersey trio of the Monotones. A second tenor, second bass singer and a baritone joined later. In 1958 their song "Who wrote the book of love" reached the charts.
Here's how the book goes...
(Chapter one says to love her)
(You love her with all your heart)
(Chapter two you tell her you're)
(Never, never, never, never, never gonna part)
(In chapter three remember the meaning of romance)
(In chapter four you break up)
(But you give her just one more chance)
The song came back into popularity in '69 when the group Sha Na Na performed the song in Woodstock. I still prefer the Monotones version. They are not trying to be something cool, they are cool.
If You Wanna Be Happy - Jimmy Soul
The time comes in a person's life they have to make a decision.
Jimmy Soul gives us some funny, but honest advice. I'm sorry if you offended, but the point of the song is don't base a life time decision on something on the outside that can be changed any time.
People don't always look the same as when we met them. Like a delicate flower we find that with the right care they blossom into something even more beautiful. I don't know if you will believe this but I'm sure my wife is more beautiful today than the day I first met her.
I don't think Jimmy wrote the song for us to ponder, but for us to laugh and smile because sometimes it is really true.

Yakety Yak - The Coasters
The song was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller for the Coasters in 1958. It's really fun to listen to and the tenor sax gives it that jumpity umpity feeling. It kind of sounds like the saxophone from Benny Hill as he chases around his comedy scenes groping for something.
It's a song about a teenage boy talking to his mom, but to me it is the song of a husband that wants to be free.
I really relate to this kid.
In Korean we call it 찬소리 (chan-so-ri)
In English we can call it Yakety Yak or pestering.

The style of these songs may be doo-wop rock and roll style, but mostly they are referred to as "oldies" but "goodies". Love is greater than 찬소리 (chan-so-ri).
I will end this post with a picture my parents sent of a glacier they hiked in Alaska yesterday. They are pretty amazing and seem to be getting along really well.
See... I told you they were angels.
