It's often that pride is such a useless thing. Too often people do not recognize the reality of the real distribution of power and systems around them and between people.
They learn about it after they have lost and the reason it comes to that is because of pride. Pride is for the stupid. Pride is for the mentally unsophisticated that cannot separate their self image from the actual consequences of their limits until it's too late. No matter how high their IQ and no matter what it is they can build a person obsessed with the pride in their minds is still stupid no matter how you look at them...
Stupid for putting dopamine bursts that result in a positive self-image ahead of real gains in the distribution of physical real life power that help them live longer and buy the free time to do the things that they want with the people that matter... Stupid for not realizing emotions are short-term gains that offer no long-term returns or benefits and that there are much better things to trade for in life: such as a lasting calm and peace from big real life returns that can finance it.
