Flipping through the comic books again. Came across this little gem. I'll start by saying up front, this is not a suggestion for investment in any way. No speculation here. This is a short, incomplete, modern comic series that will probably never be worth much of anything unless something drastic happens. I'm also not going to go into detail so I wouldn't call this a review. No spoilers. This is a series not a lot of people know about so thought I'd give it a little exposure.
With that said, it has awesome art with great action and a fun story. The artist is Long Vo who goes on to do a lot of Street Fighter concept art.
The setting is a western with sci-fi elements. Somewhat like Trigun. The story however is more of a bounty hunter turns bodyguard kind of thing.
The first issue to read is actually like a preview issue. First Draw. Which was very common back in this era.
It was not uncommon for this preview type issue to be the first half dozen pages of the first actual issue, but in this case it is a totally self contained issue. It even sets up the plot better than the recap style of the first issue. So I'd definitely recommend starting here, rather than going to the main series first issue.
The first issue does set up the plot and jumps straight into action. If you read First Draw you'll get a bit of retell but for the most part it is tons of action and has the main character meet the little girl.
The second issue explores the dynamic of the kid and main character with even more action than the first. Lots of great action panels in this one.
The third issue progresses the journey a bit. The main character sort of starts to accept his role. Like every issue, more great action.
The final issue has a showdown of sorts between the main character and one of the main antagonists. The art in this one is really great. Action packed.
Sadly, it ends when their journey is really just getting started. As far as I know this is the entire series. So many of these late 90s/early 2000s books were abandoned after the 90s bubble burst. It is really a shame. I'd put this series right there with Battle Chasers and a lot of the Dreamwave Productions original properties, just to name a couple that were really great art, story, characters, and settings that just kind of stopped.
Not sure you can find this one digitally, it ends quickly and incomplete, and will probably never be worth much money but I still recommend giving it a read if you like action packed western style sci-fi stories. Or if you are a fan of Long Vo art!
If anyone would like a more detailed review let me know!
