Buy food in Venezuela for a week, join me on this walk
Hello dear community, I'm sending you all a big hug and greetings. This time I want to show you how our shopping trip for the week went yesterday. Even though it was a rainy day, we managed to do it successfully. I also want to share a rough budget, without any frills, showing what a small grocery shop costs for about a week. I live in Venezuela.
We started on our way, in the car with my parents. I wanted to show them the city, so I recorded some videos that I'll be uploading soon so they can see it properly. It took us 15 minutes to get downtown. We focused first on the food items (chicken, ground beef, stewing beef, mortadella, and cheese). Then we added half a carton of eggs, some toiletries and cleaning products (toothpaste, bath soap, toilet paper, laundry detergent, dish soap, bleach, a sponge, and gloves). Of course, my mom added her two coffees, haha. We also bought wheat flour, rice, two sugars, two 500g packages of pasta, salt, raisins, tomato sauce, mayonnaise, oil, powdered milk, and of course, a small Nucita for me—a treat amidst all the unpleasantness, haha. We waited in a short line; it was quick, actually, because they added more boxes at the last minute. The total came to $94.95. This time, we used [payment method - please specify]. Cashea, where we pay 40% of the purchase in bolivars and the remaining 60% is paid within 15 days, makes spending a bit more flexible. Additionally, we bought a broom, a mop, and a blender lid separately at another store; it cost approximately $15. Then we bought seasonings, vegetables, and a fruit. At another place we usually go, we bought cilantro, scallions, chili peppers, culantro, garlic, yucca, taro, ocumo, and watermelon; this purchase cost $20. On our way back, we bought fish, dogfish, and mussels; this cost $25 since we bought quite a few portions. In total, we spent $154.95, considering that we already have some basic necessities at home like flour, rice, spaghetti, beans, butter, fruit for juice, etc. To finish the day, we made a fish soup with a touch of lemon and mussels.
