[I ask in prayer] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, enlightening the eyes of your understanding, so that you may know what hope he has he has called, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the operation of the power of his strength, which He worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and placing him at his right hand in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 1: 17-20

In that well-known prayer, Paul wanted the church in Ephesus (and the present church) to know something important. He prayed that God would reveal to us the supereminent greatness of Christ's power; that means not only his past greatness, but also his current greatness.

What does the present greatness of Christ mean? The Church has great reverence for the Christ who walked the earth: the Galilean Jesus, the Son of Mary, the teacher and worker of miracles.
We never tire of hearing about the greatness of Jesus of Nazareth, how he expelled demons, how he stood strong against all temptation, how he opened the eyes of the blind, uncovered deaf ears, made the paralyzed jump, restored stunted limbs, he cured leprosy, turned water into wine, fed multitudes with a few loaves and fishes, and raised the dead.
However, at some point in history, the Church placed limits on our great, powerful Savior, capable of working miracles. We developed a theology that made him Lord about the spiritual but not about the natural. We believe, for example, that He can forgive our sins, calm our nerves, alleviate our guilt, give us peace and joy, and offer us eternal life: all the work that is done in the invisible world. But few believers know Christ as the God of the natural, of our daily affairs: that is, as Lord of our children, of our employment, of our accounts, of our marriage and of Our home. Paul says we need a revelation of the power that Christ has had since his resurrection, to show us his power in all those things. Even now, it tells us the Bible, Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of God, with all power in the heavens and on earth, and God "subdued all things under his feet" (Ephesians 1:22, emphasis mine).

As I prayed about this matter, the Holy Spirit spoke powerfully to my heart. He said: Jesus has never been more powerful than He is now. Indeed, the Scripture says: "[He is] above all principality and authority and power and lordship, and over every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the age to come" (Ephesians 1:21). If we really believe this, the implications for us are formidable.
