Bacillus subtilis
Subtilisin
Protease
Basigin

A protease producing bacteria was isolated from soil and identified as Bacillus subtilis. Of the 42 isolate screened, isolate S-8 was identified as thermostable alkaline protease producer.

Many species of Bacillus can produce copious amounts of enzymes, which are used in various industries, such as in the production of alpha amylaseused in starch hydrolysis and the protease subtilisin used in detergents. B. subtilis is a valuable model for bacterial research. Some Bacillus species can synthesize and secrete lipopeptides, in particular surfactins and mycosubtilins.

Increased production of riboflavin by metabolic engineering of the purine pathway in Bacillus subtilis.

Riboflavin is in the vitamin Bgroup. It is required by the body for cellular respiration.

The extracellular matrix of B. subtilis supplies both electron donors and electron transfer mediators to efficiently reduce nitroaromatic compounds: Environmental toxicity.
