So I know a lot of people are posting about the new Social Platform coming onto the block in the form of #ONO, if you check the Ono tag you will find loads of good information.
The team at Ono has been working for a long time on building a new form of Social Network on the Blockchain, and launch is just around the corner. Launch in China is scheduled for 4/15 with the English version to follow about a month later.
According to our very own @stellabelle the founders spent 5 months creating and refining the white paper. It is incredibly dense and full of information on what they are trying to build. Some of the posts you will find in this tag help give a bit of a TL;DR, but it is highly recommended that everyone give the full White Paper a read at least once to see for yourself what is going on with the project. The white paper is broken into 7 parts over on medium so you can digest it in smaller chunks. Check out the Full White Paper HERE.
What I want to focus on here is Section 6 of the White Paper Discussing Roles
There are many specific roles that a user can fulfill on the Ono platform. Of course the platform will need and thrive on Content Creators, but you don't HAVE TO create content in order to have value to the Ono community. The system recognizes the need for good curation to help give exposure to great content that might not be seen if not boosted.
So let's jump down to section 6.4 of the white paper, and the role I am particularly keen on discovering more about: Community Volunteers.
6.4 Community Volunteers
Community volunteers are based on the ONO core mechanism and values. Volunteers protect the value of the social media network and embody the value system of the content creators. They solve the problems of newbie users who are just learning how to use ONO, and they help more people understand ONO as well as show people how to meet their personal needs on the ONO platform.
To show appreciation, ONO will use an incentive system according to the level of activity in the service community and award different amounts of ONOT: Incentive system — community volunteers.
So there will be a tier of people who are specifically being rewarded for onboarding and helping new users get their feet under them on the platform.
How does this play out? Are volunteers holding orientation classes and teaching people about the system and how to use it? are volunteers combing through the new posts looking for good content and new users who should be given more exposure? So many questions, but in either event, these are both areas that I personally want to be able to focus attention, so being a community volunteer might be the right niche for me.
Section 6 goes on to talk about another level of user called the "Super Partner" which sounds like the Steemcleaners of Ono. Check it out:
Super Partners are the social network’s quality content protectors. They are the ones that deal with content that is harmful to the social network. Their role is to protect the safety, freedom, and decentralization of the ONO social network. Dealing with harmful content is the premise for the prosperous development of the ONO social network.
In the ONO social network, the content ecosystem is an important component. Optimizing the quality of content and reducing harmful content consumes users’ attention value and its importance is evident. We can use the “invisible hand” reputation system to have valuable content and to prevent low quality content from overflowing; we can use the referendum to solve cases of controversy — but, judging which content is in violation of the Common Programme will most likely become an inefficient task so we must create a system.
When content that clearly violates the Common Programme of the ONO social network, it must be immediately hidden; the Super Partners must in a very short amount of time take care of this work and prevent it from further contaminating the social network. The Super Partners are dedicated to helping the ONO social network eliminate harmful content and protect users so that they only see safe, harmless content. ONO will take ONOT from the incentive pool to give Super Partners a reward for their efforts. ONO provides a highly efficient handling method for Super Partners and they can use the Web terminal management to handle content that goes against the Common Programme.
This is a high level, high responsibility position. These folks are going to be responsible for ensuring that bad actors are not being rewarded for inappropriate content. This is so important that it is not a task which will just be left to anyone. The Super Partners are going to be an elected position. Super Partners will have to run for reelection, and can be removed for misuse of their power.
There will be checks and balances in place to ensure that every role's duties are being fulfilled in a way that is consistent with the values set forth in the structure of the Ono system.
Of course there are other roles that will need to be filled, and this is just one tiny portion of the white paper that I am touching on. If you want to skip ahead to the roles, you can find them in Ono White Paper Section 6.
A couple of additional points of what I have found out so far.
Q: Is this Dan Larimer's Steem 2.0?
A: No, this is a separate platform that is being built on the EOS system and was in production long before Dan discussed his new version of Steem.
Q: How do I get involved?
A: The best way to get involved right now is to join the Telegram Channel and show an interest. The first wave of invitations will be limited to 300,000 select members to get the community started. Showing an interest, reading the white paper, curiosity, willingness to work, and peel back the layers of the onion will go a long way toward being one of those 300,000. (As a side note, I don't think anyone is guaranteed one of those 300,000 invites at this point, so I am speaking as someone who is attempting to be one of the few myself and has no inside track). Here;s the link to the telegram group (English Version): Telegram English: https://t.me/ONOUS
Q: Can I buy the ONO token (ONOT)?
A: ONOT is not currently listed on any exchanges. You can receive a random number of ONOT by completing a task at candy.one, but otherwise we are all waiting for the distribution of tokens to be defined. Stella wrote about why the founders decided not to do an ICO, you can read that article here: ONO Social Network - Why No ICO.
Q: What are the official web sites and information sources for ONO?
A: Here are the links as shared in their White Paper:

So that's all I got at the moment. Ask questions below and hopefully I, or someone else who has been checking things out, will be able to give you some clarification. There are a load of questions that will be answered with the release of the platform in the coming weeks. In the meantime, knowledge is power. So get informed!
