I visited a part of town I hadn't been to in years and ate dinner. It was a traditional Japanese style izakaya. The friendly staff pulled us in from the cold streets and gave us a spot right at the counter so we could watch the chefs in action! Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs as usual and we way over ordered!
We started with a selection of lightly fried kushi katsu, which is basically any meat or veggie battered and fried on a stick. It's dipped in a thick slightly sweet sauce and is super delicious!
Next we ate fried chicken and thin style Japanese okonomiyaki, which is a savoury pancake filled with spring onions, sliced pork and onions. It was much bigger than we expected!
My real favorite was the ginko nuts cooked under open flame until they crack. They are very seasonal so I never miss a chance to eat them! If you ever have a chance please try them!

Of course we ordered Japanese sake and potato sake...maybe too many and my friend got a little drunk!
お酒と銀杏😁✨
Oh and we also had deep fried Camembert cheese and potato sticks. My friend was excited because the dipping sauce was marmalade. We don't see marmalade used in Japan very much but it complemented the fried cheese very nicely with a sweet touch!
