That Feeling You Get When a Possible Major Problem Has a Simple Fix!
When I last left off we had just gotten the broken 5th wheel (RV) leg fixed and made it to the next campground after an hour detour from missing exits. Once we got to the new campground, it was blazing hot outside! We have been lucky (though we did plan it) to be in such great weather while heading up north as the temps increased and have not had to use our A/C all year except for just a few days prior and we only turned it on for 30 minutes, so I don't really count it, but with this heat running the A/C would be a must!
At first we just opened up all of the windows and went for a swim in the lake and then into town to go grocery shop and eat. When we got back though it was so hot in the camper, we had to crank it on, only it wouldn't turn on! The fan was not doing anything but making a faint noise and when you turned the actually A/C on it would make all of the normal noises except for the fun kicking on which of course runs it all. We tried turning it on and off and waiting and breakers on the trailer and outside on the electrical box and nothing worked. I figured it would need to be fixed and we just do not have the budget for that now and have already gotten help just that day with getting the leg fixed. What luck! I assumed we would just not fix it and have to deal with no A/C until we get back to Houston to sell this thing.
It was so hot we had to go to Walmart (my least favorite place, that we only shop at in emergency situations) and purchase two fans. It was still hot but after an hour of the fans blowing and the temp slowly dropping outside, we were able to cool off and get some sleep. The next morning I looked up our issue online and there was one simple fix that people suggested that cost no money and I could no myself. So I climbed on the roof, which in our case is not easy because there is no back ladder so I have to pull my truck up and climb on the vert top of the truck to get on. I then took of the A/C unit cover, of course one screw was stripped so that was fun to deal with, and made my attempt.
The suggest was to make sure nothing was obstructing the fan blades and to turn the unit on and spin the fan with your hands to get it going. I told Hailey to turn the fan on and I tried it but nothing happened, so she turned on the whole unit and I spun it, again nothing. So I gave it one more shot and this time REALLY gave it a hard spin and it cranked on ran like a champ! That was it, a simple spin did the trick and we could now sleep easy! Ah I love it when it is a simple fix like that and doesn't cost you any money. It is a a fantastic feeling and made me feel on top of the world.
