Absorbing damage - Shield and Void, useful Abilities! [PT/EN]
[PT]
Note que, existem apenas 3 monstros que possuem essas duas habilidades.
Assista a batalha clicando aqui.

Hello Splinters, welcome back!!
Some fundamentals are necessary to master to win battles, among them, the basics are knowing how to attack and defend yourself. When we think about playing offensively, having monsters with high attack is what we want on our side of the field, but we need to be aware, being very offensive is a sign of opening guard and being more vulnerable. Taking a balance to battles between attacking and defending will be more efficient to face many adversities, knowing how to defend is the beginning.
In Splinterlands, we can count on many skills that will help us in the defensive part, some will reduce opponent attacks, others will add shields, restore health and so on. Others will decrease the amount of damage taken, that's what we're going to talk about today.
Shield and Void serve the same purpose on the field: Decrease the amount of damage a monster takes. These skills are mostly useful when a tank has them. A tank needs to take a lot of hits, and defending well should be its main asset.
Each of these abilities are meant to counter different types of attacks:
Melee and Ranged attack damage is halved (round up), except attack 1, which does 0 damage. It also reduces the damage of Thorns to 1. A tank that has this skill will be less affected by non-magical monsters, this is a very appreciated feature in our battles.
Below, we have all the monsters that have this ability in their respective levels and editions:
But when a monster that has the Shield ability takes damage from a magic attack monster, it will have no defense, and it is with the Void ability that we will defend ourselves better:
This skill has the same function as the Shield skill, but for magic attacks. As magic attacks are greatly feared for their offensive excellence, avoiding shields and not missing their attacks, a monster that has this ability becomes great to face them.
Below all the monsters that have the ability Void in their respective levels and editions:
Note that, there are only 3 monsters that have these two skills. These 3 monsters are of the Neutral element: ONYX SENTINEL at level 4, CHAIN GOLEM at level 2 and LORD ARIANTHUS at level 1.
Because these monsters are of the Neutral element, they are more accessible for many battles and complement with other elements.
In the element of death, we also have the opportunity to add Void to monsters using the summoner MIMOSA NIGHTSHADE. With this possibility, using a monster that already has the Shield skill will give extra protection to any type of attack.
Are we going to see some of that in a battle?
For this match we have the Earthquake and Holy Protection rule. Monsters that don't have the Flying skill will take extra damage and Holy Protection will give extra protection to the monsters. 40 mana is what we have to scale teams, a good amount that will give me freedom to plan my strategy.
My strategy was simple: Reduce the opponent's attack and set up monsters with Shield and Void.
Watch the battle by clicking here.
With MIMOSA NIGHTSHADE I would remove 1 ranged attack from enemy monsters, add Void to all allied monsters, and prevent rival monsters from healing.
FALLEN SPECTER would have the role of reducing the opponent's melee attack.
PHANTOM SOLDIER will lower enemy monsters' magic attacks.
HARKLAW It was the tank chosen for this match for two reasons: It has the Shield ability that would absorb damage.
The Void skill was added to it by the summoner, it was very well protected from all possible attack types.
My opponent wasn't very good at putting most of his team attacking on my tank, as he did so, he attacked the best protected sector of my field.
My strategy worked very well, the defensive part was almost perfect and I had monsters with good attacks to take down rival monsters.
This was a battle where decreasing damage and betting on defense was a good choice. I did not ignore the offensive part and the balance was very successful!
Here I end this post. Thank you for spending some of your time with my words, until next time!!
