Splinterlands is a game that can surprise us in many different ways. Battles are constantly changing, and monsters and Archons can become less useful or, on the contrary, much more valuable depending on the current mechanics or new features introduced into the game, such as new abilities, Rulesets, and even new cards.
With so many cards available and frequent updates, it is practically impossible for a player to own every card in their collection. That is why, whenever possible, I like to test new cards and evaluate their performance in battle. Otherwise, I would end up relying only on my favorite cards, which, although useful in many situations, cannot cover all the possibilities that the game offers.
One monster I have been enjoying quite a lot is Nephket, a Life/Water multi-element card. What I find most interesting about him is that he has Sneak and can perform two types of attacks: melee and ranged.
In addition, he has the Stun ability, which can stun the opponent's last monster, causing it to lose its turn in the round. Usually, very powerful cards are placed in the last position to protect them from frontal attacks, so this ability can be an excellent counter in certain situations.
Sometimes, it is a good idea to completely change your strategy and rely on Sneak attacks, since the opponent's weak point is often located in the backline.
Combining several monsters with the Sneak ability can be a very effective strategy, especially when we can quickly eliminate the monsters protecting the rear positions.
Sneak allows a monster to attack the enemy monster in the last position.
Two abilities that have excellent synergy with Nephket are Stun and Knock Out.
When a monster is affected by Stun, the Knock Out ability can double the damage dealt to that target. Since Nephket has both abilities, he can take advantage of this combination in a very interesting way during battle.
The Stun ability leaves the opponent stunned and makes them lose their turn, while Knock Out doubles the damage received if the monster is stunned.
Although Nephket has several abilities and two types of attacks, he also has a weakness: he does not have much HP or armor.
To compensate for this weakness, he has the Divine Shield ability, which can protect him from the first attack he receives.
Finally, this monster also has the Piercing ability, which allows excess damage to go through the enemy's armor and directly reduce the opponent's HP.
In the following battle, we can see Nephket in action against Eternal Tofu.
For this match, I chose the Life Splinter with the summoner Captain Frankie. My opponent had a considerable advantage because Tofu grants the Thorns ability to all of his monsters. In addition, due to the battle rules, only monsters with melee damage could be used.
Tofu is one of the most powerful Archons in the Rebellion edition, with a very high win rate.
My main advantage in this battle was that some of the enemy monsters were not at max level. My opponent also gave Divine Shield to three of their strongest monsters.
On my side, I gave True Strike and Piercing to my two main tanks, trying to increase their offensive potential and make their attacks more consistent.
Right after the first round, several enemy monsters were defeated, including the main tank and the monster in the last position.
One thing that really caught my attention was how Nephket's double attack worked. His first attack is ranged, which can activate Stun. Then, his second attack, which is melee, can take advantage of the enemy being stunned and significantly increase the damage through Knock Out.
That is exactly what happened with Olivia of the Brook, as we can see in the image below.
Despite all the strategy and the fact that my team was generally at a higher level than the opposing monsters, Tofu once again showed why he is considered such a powerful Archon.
My team was gradually eliminated throughout the battle, leaving only Olivia of the Brook. Thanks to the abilities she accumulated during the match, she managed to survive and eventually defeat the opponent.
The result of this battle can be seen in the image below.
This battle showed how interesting Nephket can be when we take advantage of the Stun + Knock Out combination, especially because his first attack can apply Stun while his second attack can take advantage of the effect to deal increased damage.
This is exactly the kind of interaction between abilities that makes Splinterlands so interesting. A card that may seem limited in one situation can become extremely useful when we find the right combination of abilities, Rulesets, and team composition.
