I have only started looking seriously into crypto since I started Steemit, so a little less than two weeks. Mining even less than that, and it has been an adventure.
Well with Steemit no longer allowing mining I decided to look into other forms of mining. However I learned a lot from going through the old process of setup for Steem and it's made it easier to learn to mine other crypto. The thing I found cool and interesting is the idea of pool mining. Pooling together many users to get a larger hash rate in the grand scheme of crypto. The currency I have landed on for now is Dash. It was a really interesting experience and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get into and that my gaming machine could get reasonable results.
