People have questioned me - "Why do I post memes? This may not be good content to post on Steemit? We don’t upvote that!"
My answer covers a number of areas:
-First, it's fun. I enjoy making the meme and also enjoy reading other memes. Many of them are very funny and it is good to kick back and laugh sometimes.
-Second, it's creative. Exercising the mind is very beneficial to the mind’s growth and sharpness. This is especially for us seniors….using the mind and being creative is vital for the mind’s continued healthy functioning.
-Third, I learned how to do something new on a computer; i.e.; insert text onto a picture. Sounds pretty simple but I enjoyed the learning process and the aha experience when I was able to easily do it.
-Fourth, I like contests. Memechallenge is a contest. I like the challenge to create something new and different. I like the friendly competition.
Yes, some memes are a bit off-color. Some people like them and that is their prerogative. I try to stay away from those.
So all in all, IMO, memes serve a good purpose on Steemit, both for the creator and the reader.
