Modelling is about building representations of things in the ‘real world’ and allowing ideas to be investigated; it is central to all activities in the process for building or creating an artefact of some form or other. In effect, a model is a way of expressing a particular view of an identifiable system of some kind.
Modeling is distinguished from other types of public performance, such as an acting, dancing or mime artistry, although the boundary is not well defined. Appearing in a movie or a play is generally not considered to be modeling, regardless of the nature of the role. However, many models can also describe themselves as actors. Fashion modeling is similar to acting, as the models have to express an emotion and feeling in their photographs.

WHO IS A MODEL?

A model is an abstraction, which allows people to concentrate on the essentials of a (complex) problem by keeping out non-essential details. Since there is a limit to how much a person can understand at any one time, we build models to help in activities such as the development of large software systems. A person who serves as a subject for artwork or fashion, usually in the medium of photography but also for painting or drawing.
A person, usually an attractive female, hired to show items or goods to the public, such as items given away as prizes on a TV game show. A model is a person with a role either to promote, display or advertise commercial products (notably fashion clothing in fashion shows), or to serve as a visual aid for people who are creating works of art or to pose for photography.

The types of Model cannot be over emphasized, reasons been that there are numerous. We consider a few types;

  • Fashion (Editorial) Model

There are two types of fashion models: high fashion and commercial. High fashion modeling is an art form of fashion. The photographer photographs the model in artistic themes that relate to the clothing promoted. The model uses their face and body to express different emotions required. High fashion is typical for work on campaigns, collections and magazine editorials for high fashion designers. These models are featured in high fashion magazines such as Vogue, W and ELLE. Clothing designers traditionally show their new collections in an annual fashion show, for buyers, the fashion industry, and the general public.

  • Runway/Catwalk Model

In fashion, a runway, catwalk or ramp is a narrow, usually flat platform that runs into an auditorium or between sections of an outdoor seating area, used by models to demonstrate clothing and accessories during a fashion show.
Female runway/catwalk models are a minimum of 5' 9" but 5' 10" - 5' 11" is even better. Runway models must have precise measurements so they are able to fit the clothes that designers are going to be showing to their clients. Their measurements are usually no greater than 34" - 23" - 34".

  • Commercial Model

Commercial modelling is a niche that spans across a wide area. Advertisements (both print and television), magazines and catalogues all fall under the commercial umbrella. Brands such as H&M and Zara hire models to promote their product to their target audience and therefore, require talent that fits their vision.
Commercial models can be any age, any size and any height. Hooray! Commercial models can do everything that isn't normally associated with high-fashion, such as product ads (housewares, food products, travel industry, tech devices, and the list goes on).

  • Fitness Model

Fitness model can mean: Fitness model (person), a person who models, with emphasis on their physique. Fitness model (network theory), a model of network evolution. Fitness models are models who are very athletic, fit and toned. Many fitness models started out as athletes or trainers and have added fitness modeling to their resumes. In addition to working for fitness companies, supplement manufacturers and athletic wear companies, fitness models are often commercial models as well.

  • Glamour Model

An erotic photography model is a person who poses nude or semi-naked for erotic or sensual photos, which are intended to be displayed in exhibitions, art galleries, books, magazines, calendars, as well in other formats.

  • Child Model

A child model refers to a child who is employed to display, advertise and promote commercial products or to serve as a subject of works of art, such as photography, painting and sculpture. The age range for a child model is generally 12 years and under and they can be any size and height.
Agents that represent child models are looking for children with lots of personality and who are able to work well on set and around strangers.

FIVE SUPER STEPS ON BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL MODEL

  • Your Mindset

Mindset is important because mindset lets us be ok with doing things.
Psychological modeling is a form of copying or mirroring the behavior of another person. This can be done on a conscious level of awareness, however, we often tend to do this at an unconscious level of awareness during our day-to-day interactions with others. The people you hang around with most are often the people you admire and respect above all others. These are your friends and your confidants who provide you with an emotional bedrock you can use for support during times of need. Now, whether you realize it or not, you are in fact mirroring in some respects how these people talk, how they move, how they dress, the decisions they make, the actions they take, etc. At the same time, these people are also mirroring your decisions, actions, and behaviors without even consciously realizing it. And all this is significant because as you mirror others, you begin to think as they do, and as you begin to think as they do you also start adopting their beliefs, their values, their perspectives and their approach to life. You, in essence, become somewhat like them, and this inevitably influences your day-to-day undertakings.

Roman 12:1
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

  • Confidence

The key factor in a model is their ability to convey confidence through their poses and facial expressions.People often think that modeling is just about looks. This misconception turns a beautiful person into just a body with no skills. Modeling is not about having the perfect "looks." The key to successfully modeling is the mindset. With just one thought, a photographer can take his or her models to the next level.
Confidence leads to lack of inhibitions and that translates into solid pictures. Even if someone is inexperienced hang-ups and reservation rarely result in quality poses. It’s important to let go of the mindset of a beginner. A model might argue that they aren’t sure what their angles are, or how they look most flattering. But these exact thoughts are what keep models from truly experimenting and finding these angles. Further, confidence will override any sort of lack of experience.

Eph 3:12
In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

  • Preparedness

Preparedness refers to a very concrete research based set of actions that are taken as precautionary measures in the face of potential disasters. These actions can include both physical preparations (such as emergency supplies depots, adapting buildings to survive earthquakes and so on) and trainings for emergency action. Preparedness is an important quality in achieving goals and in avoiding and mitigating negative outcomes.
To make ready for a specific future purpose; to set up; to assemble.

1 Peter 3:15, “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”

  • Charisma

Charisma isn't the same thing as confidence, but appearing confident can make you more charismatic because your confidence will put others at ease and inspire faith in your abilities. If people see you as a confident person, they will naturally want to be around you.
A charismatic person stands tall and walks with steady, determined strides. They walk into a room of strangers with pride, ready to embrace a new opportunity. They also gesture with their hands instead of crossing them over their chest.
Improve your posture. Nothing conveys confidence like good posture. Stand or sit up straight, but not rigidly. When you meet someone, give a firm handshake and look the other person in the eye. Display positive body language while you're talking to someone or even when you're just waiting around. Sit facing the person or people you're talking to, uncross your legs and arms, and keep your hands away from your face. Look at ease, and don't fidget or convey nervousness.

John 10:11-18
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
