french strikes

As a french, friends in London and in Milan asked me about French strikes.
Why French people like doing strikes?
I don’t remember me taking part to a strike, even when I was student because when I knew about a strike, I usually planned to play tennis and/or for a training.
Once the government pass a law to change the whole school system, there was a massive strike at that time, but honestly as I had read the government solutions I couldn’t be against. So I don’t take part to the massive strike of more than half million people in the streets.
Today the French government want to change the railway area. It is not the first government who is trying, the previous reforms have all failed.
Can you imagine a country without public transport during 1 month? It happens yet during a hard winter and everybody have to go to work and the major part of the population supported the strike.
In France we have a well developed public sector from schools to transport and without forgetting Hospitals and social care system.
What people abroad don’t understand, it is not the state who provided for the social care system and the pension, it is the workers: They pay for that every month, as social organisations take the money from their salary and wages.
After World War II, all the railway companies were nationalised. Since then the successive governments never imposed major changes in this area.
The actual government is talking about 10 billions euros debts to intervene in their organisations.
But what represents 10 billions debts for a company who have the monopoly of transportation in the whole territory?
And it is by cutting workers advantages that the government will reduce the debts?
Trains is a secure way of transport, but I am in favour of the strikers. The whole organisation and the working conditions has been made for people security, as a client I rather pay more and stay safe during trip at 350 km per hour.
The French president has more power than any other “western” president. We always compare this power with the power of French Rey Louis xiv. In fact the French president has more because his decision can be apply in any part of the territory within seconds and because there is no balance like the parlement or the chief of justice, whereas, Louis XIV has power only in Versailles and there is a lot of balance at his power.
So at the question, why French people like strikes? We will answer that strikes it is right write down in the French constitution and it is the only way for people to reject government proposals and regulations. People are “king for one day” just before they express their vote, after that, they don’t even exist…
