When I walked into the coin shop the other day, this bar was waiting for me. It had been in the shop for several days waiting for me to walk in and take it home. Several other people looked at it but all had passed it by.

I really like these National Refiners bars, but two things about this one stood out to me. Firstly is the serial number.

It's got a double stamp. I've never seen a silver bar with this overt of a double stamp on it. It's very clear that they stamped and then tried to do it again.

The other thing that stood out to me about this one is that it has a big chunk out of the side. I've seen marks like this and been told that it has to do with them having trouble getting it out of the mold, but I've never seen one this deep.

Of course it has also occurred to me that with these "flaws" it's also possible that this is a fake. I don't believe this to be true, as I trust the source and it seems to check out with the other bars like this that I've seen. but it's always a possibility, so I thought I would throw this out to the group. What do you all think of the double stamping and the chunk out of its side?

The back look standard for this type. Slightly rounded corners and patina consistent with the front.
