Each Friday is ZapFic. The challenge is to write a complete story in 50 words, exactly 50 words. This week the prompt is PICK. I reached back to the school yard days for a story of an eleven-year old that hasn't quite found his place yet.
Here's my ZapFic entry:
The dust swirled around his unmarred white sneakers. He yearned for them to be scuffed and scratched. Each captain called a name to the cheer of those already picked and jeers of those that remained. Soon there were 12 on each side. Once again he was the odd man out.
