I’ve encountered today a monument devoted to a mother - named Katarzyna Smreczyńska. Over 100 years ago, there lived poet / writer Władysław Orkan. His origins were in a poor peasant family. His mother, however, devoted her life to secure education for her two sons. Back then, only primary education was accessible to the poor. She worked hard to secure high school for her sons. More than that, every month she would walk - on foot - 60km from her village to Krakow, where her sons studied, to bring them food and supplies.
Years later, Orkan became famous and well off. He never forgot what his mother had done.
I am very glad that someone took the initiative to erect a monument to Mrs Smreczynska
